Another milestone under your belt
My little girl is girl no more
I held on tight and would not let go
But your wings were ready when you were four
I have watched with pride your courageous ways
Often protecting you against your will
I have given you roots and wings to fly
Now I get to watch you glide up high
Prom 2014
“A star falls from the sky and into your hands. Then it seeps through your veins and swims inside your blood and becomes every part of you. And then you have to put it back into the sky. And it’s the most painful thing you’ll ever have to do and that you’ve ever done. But what’s yours is yours. Whether it’s up in the sky or here in your hands.”
― C. JoyBell C.
That’s a really beautiful quote you picked to go with this post. What an achievement for both of you…take heart, if she has wings, it means she can fly back to you 😉 xo

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up much lately….surgeries, etc. But she is absolutely gorgeous, and even though I know you are so proud, it is also so hard watching them growing up (way too fast), and getting ready to leave. I know that you are a great mom, and have prepared her well. Good luck to all of you. 🙂

Hi Kim! I haven’t been very good this past week with all the festivities around graduation. Is everything ok? You had surgery?

First of all I am so chagrined to say that I didn’t realize that I was not following your blog. I assumed I always have been. You know me and technology! So now I am an official follower of you my friend. I have had to have major oral surgery with bone grafts, etc. It has been rather painful, and they tell me it will take around 4 months to heal. Then they will put in the new inserts, and that will take 4 more months to heal. I am headed back to the oral surgeon today to get some of the wires removed, but it has been quite an ordeal. They tell me it is because of all the medication I have to take for all my different conditions. So I have not been on much lately because I just haven’t felt well. This week is a week of one doctor’s visit after another, but you know how it goes…..you soldier on! I hope that you will get some rest this week, and start to feel a little better. Take care of yourself. You are priceless!! 😉

OUCH! You poor thing! I hope the 4 months go by quickly so you can heal! 😦
Don’t worry about realizing that you were not following me. Same thing had happened to me! My mom is here for the week so I am still so behind on blog reading and sneak in here once in a while. 🙂

Where does your mom live? And I hope while she is there you guys have a great time. You deserve a little fun after all of your crazy, busy time you just had. About my mouth, the crazy part is that after the gums finish healing, then they have to put in the implants, and they take four more months to heal. So I think by the new year I should be done! In the meantime, next week they are going to make me a flipper (a set of false teeth that I can pop in so I don’t look like a toothless granny while my gums finish healing). You know that song, “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth”? That’s kind of how I’m feeling. All I want is for this to be done. You don’t realize how painful and annoying it is when your mouth is misbehaving because you use it all the time eating, and of course talking. If I could just quit talking it might help, but I’m not sure that’s a realistic option for me!!! 😉 But thanks for caring Maria. I hope you are starting to feel better these days too. Take care my friend……

Thank you, my dear. It’s been a crazy week but it’s been fun. Tonight we had an awards night and the graduation is on Friday. I am so behind on my post reading so I apologize for that. After this weekend I will be able to breathe. I also loved that quote. 🙂

In Puerto Rico many of the girls wear white dresses for quinceaneras or debutants or prom. It does look like a wedding dress! 🙂 I’m way not ready for that, however. 🙂

You are right, Kassandra! I went through it with my son two years ago and it was tough. Now with the baby (and a girl) it’s even tougher. We will survive and are also looking forward to the nest being empty for months at a time. 🙂

Muchas Gracias, Andra. She did look stunning, Mr. Brickhouse and I were moved by her poise and elegance. Her boyfriend is a sweetheart and adorable! They had a blast at the Prom.
BTW, I know you are traveling, but I have to tell you that I had a dream last night that Mr. B and I went to visit you and MTM and Jill Weatherholt was at your house too. We had a fabulous dinner and then you were taking care of a niece and nephew that were at your house. MTM and Mr. B were bird watching outside while us gals were chatting and drinking wine inside. Then, you got tired and excused yourself and went to your bedroom. Jill and I looked at each other and said, “Well, I guess the visit is over.” And we headed home. LOL. Funny dream! 🙂

Thanks, Jill. She really did look like a bride, didn’t she? In Puerto Rico, many girls wear white for their quinceaneras and proms, as well as wedding of course. Her boyfriend is a sweetheart and yes, a cutie!!! They make a wonderful couple. We all say that they kind of look alike. God knows what will happen with their relationship in the fall. Time will tell. 🙂

Hi there! He will be attending the University of Massachusetts, so they will be 6 hours away from ea other. They are being realistic about the whole thing.
I told this to Andra but last night, I had a dream that you and I and Mr. B went to visit Andra and MTM at their house. They had a nice dinner for us, then the men went bird watching outside and we stayed in chatting and drinking wine. Then Andra got up abruptly, excused herself and went to her bedroom. You and I looked at ea other puzzled and said, “Well, I guess this is the end of the visit”. And we went home. LOL. 🙂

This is so beautiful. I have two kids. The elder of the two is twelve and just had her first sleep over last night. It’s hard to let her go because she is the one who made a mother of me, but I know that, eventually, I’ll have to let her go and see how far her wings will take her. Your poem reminded me of that. It’s gut wrenching, but at the same time, I’m proud of my daughter for being so strong and wise. She’s a good kid. The world needs more like her.

You are so right, Cimmorene. So hard to let them go. First sleep over is a big deal, I remember. You must be so proud of her! My daughter is very strong and independent and has wanted out since day one. But as she matures, she appreciates more what she has. 🙂
